Every day, it's a gettin' closer, goin' faster than a rollercoaster...
WASSUP5 done come 'n' went - here's a few photos (courtesy of Shari Ballard-Krishnan) that tell a little bit about what happened. Thank you to all who came and all who helped get everything ready (and put away!) Plans are already being made for WASSUP6 - Fri/Sat, March 13 and 14, 2020! Mark your Google calendars now... 😀
Sadly, Jane Kuhlman has passed away. She and Bill were instrumental in the formation of Jolly Hammers and Strings and in creating the Midland Folk Music Festival. FMSM sends its sympathies to Keith, Kris, Kathy, and the whole Kuhlman family.

A sad note to share with the FMSM family...
Here is a note from Marlene and an excerpt from Jerry's obituary and a lovely clip of Jerry and Marlene dancing ...
My beloved
Jerry died Friday morning. His daughter Ann and I were there with
him, and I was able to hold him as he gently let go of his life.
After 5 days in the Neuro ICU, we were fortunate to find a bed for
him at Toni & Trish House where the hospice care is so attentive
and loving. Last Friday he fell causing a severe brain bleed – and
thus a hemorrhagic stroke. He declined slowly over the week, but
until Thursday was still responsive and able to smile and squeeze our
hands. I will miss him terribly – but I also feel some relief that
his struggle is over.
I am hoping
that folk & dance musicians can bring their acoustic instruments
and jam after the service and lunch Saturday in the Gathering room at
Trinity Lutheran.
Gerald
(Jerry) Hickman, 88, of Midland, died gently and peacefully on
November 2, 2018, knowing he was loved. Jerry loved folk music and
traditional dancing. He organized the Midland Traditional Dancers and
taught contra dancing and clogging at the Midland Community Center.
He also taught dance to Midland students and Girl Scouts, and he was
the Dancing Master at the Historical Society’s Victorian Ball.
Jerry’s
bright spirit and enthusiasm for life touched the lives of all who
knew him. Jerry is survived by his loving wife and favorite dance
partner for 34 years, Marlene Hickman.. . . .
A celebration
of Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11
AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Jerry’s family will receive
friends on Friday November 9, from 6-8 PM at Ware-Smith Woolever and
at 10 AM Saturday at the Church. His family is grateful for all the
compassionate care and attention he received in the last months of
his life. Donations in memory of Gerald Hickman would be appreciated
to the Toni & Trish House or Senior Services.
