Fall Concert

NOTE: Non-member price edited to $15/person
Live Folk Concert: Saturday, October 14, 2023, 7 pm,
at Creative 360’s newest location, 5501 Jefferson, Midland, MI 48640.

Bay City native Andrew Maxson opens the concert sharing music of the ancient oud, an Arabic lute. Andrew has been studying the oud since 2019 as a student of Ramy Adly at the School of Oud Online. The curriculum was established by Naseer Shamma, a UNESCO Artist for Peace and founder of the Arabic Oud House in Egypt. Andrew will perform a repertoire from Naseer Shama, vintage Egypitan hits, and original pieces.

Ben Traverse, also of Michigan, will be accompanied by Josh Holcomb, Vince Russo, and Carsten Forester, to perform traditional folk music. These young musicians have been performing on stages across the state over the last decade. Ben began releasing recordings in 2021 as part of the Earthwork Music Collective, using traditional music as a vehicle for education, equity, and environmental action. Steeped in the history of the music as much as the music itself, Ben will offer an entertaining sample of Traditional American Folk Music, complete with stories behind the tunes. To learn more and listen to their work, visit the website bentraversemusic.com

Admission to the concert is $10 per person for Midland Folk Music Society members, $15 per Non-Member. Open to the public. Memberships available at the door. More information at www.folkmusicsociety.org

This concert is brought to you by the Midland Folk Music Society with grant support from the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation and is a collaboration with Creative 360.
