No Second Jam at Baymont this week (Friday, 12/9/22)!  SUGAR is playing at Dow Gardens that evening.

Tri-Cities area friends... tonight (Friday, 11/11/22) from 6-8pm, the Folk Music Society of Midland's 2nd Jam will be held at Baymont Inn on Wackerly (where the red double-decker bus is parked).

Bring your acoustic instrument and 5-6 paper copies of any songs you wish to share, because not everyone can play by ear, and this a jam rather than an open mic. 👌

From the recent 2022 Midland Folk Music Festival

PLEASE READ THIS NOTE FROM DON MASSELLI: The Midland Folk Festival is always an intense mixture of social and musical experiences. When it ends, I go home with a general sense of being right with the world, tempered with days of sleep deprivation. After this festival, I came home with a bit more--Covid 19! Very special.

The reason I'm sharing this is to warn anyone who may have had contact with me about your risk of exposure. I am pretty I got it between Thursday afternoon and Friday evening and I did not experience symptoms until late Saturday evening. I don't know how viral transmission works or even if I could have passed it on during my initial exposure, but I want people who were around me to be aware that they too could have been exposed. Here's what I did Friday and Saturday, as I remember it:
My songwriter's workshop at 2:00 PM Friday.
Johnny's Beatles singalong Friday
Punch Drunk's 2 chord workshop Saturday
SUGAR pre-show Saturday
That's what I can remember, but there were shorter connections on both those days, too. If you were at any of those and you are feeling a little funny, you should get tested.
Sorry to bring down the level of enthusiasm for the festival, but I think people should be aware of the situation.
And, I'm doing OK so far, a couple more days without emptying the dishwasher and I'll be better.

At this time, the Mt. Haley Jams on the last Friday of each month (beginning with July 2022) are suspended indefinitely.

Greetings, fellow jammers!

Johnny Hunt here with some ideas and plans how to make the 2nd Jams work more smoothly...

We are cleared for take-off at the Fashion Square Mall on the 4th Tuesdays of the month from 6-8pm, beginning this coming Tuesday, April 2th. If it works out and is well-attended enough, we can make it a monthly thing. Also, the Midland Mall 2nd Jam will meet on the 2nd Friday of each month from 6-8pm as long as it is well-attended.

I had good intentions of projecting all the songs with the words and the chords last time, but the screen I made wasn't adequate. I have a much better screen to bring along on the 26th, but I will need a couple of helpers to set it up around 5:30pm. Please let me know if you're able to help with this.

With a group of players having different talents and abilities and songs that they sing and play, it will be very helpful to have the lyrics and chords visible to all!

I would love to have you submit songs to me in either a .pdf or .jpg format so they can be included in the upcoming jam as well as subsequent jams! For the upcoming jam on the 26th, I will need to have them sent to me no later than Sunday, the 24th.

The requests that I have for the songs you wish to be included is that they fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 page in portrait mode, and that the chords be included in-line rather than above the lyrics just to save space. Here is an example of what I prefer for projectability and legibility...

I will send around a sheet at the jams for you to put your name and e-mail address, and that way I can send group e-mails out with any communications that would be helpful.

Thanks, peanutuke@gmail.com
